Q: I only have a negative I wish to print, can you use that?
A: We have the ability to digitally scan the negative direct for manipulation so this is no problem.

Q: What file types do you accept for upload?
A: We can accept pretty much any picture file type from the typical jpeg to tiff, bitmap and even camera RAW.

Q: Do prints fade?
A: All pictures will eventually fade. Several factors can effect the fading process; the main culprit is UV light, second is natural light then heat. Unfortunately turning off the sun is not really viable so the ink we use has been specially formulated to withstand the effects of UV rays with a rating of 108 years for colour, and over 200 years for black and white*.

*Print permanence ratings based on accelerated testing of prints on specialty media, displayed indoors, under glass. Actual print stability will vary according to display conditions, light intensity, humidity, and atmospheric conditions. We cannot guarantee the longevity of our prints. For maximum print life, display all prints under glass or lamination or properly store them. Visit www.wilhelm-research.com for the latest information.

Q: What protection do you offer against damage by UV or accidental?
A: As standard we coat the finished print with a lacquer which will further protect the ink from UV damage as well as offering an alternative varnish method which will prevent physically damage such as scratches and knocks to the surface.

Q: How long does it take for my print to arrive?
A: Officially we state 3 to 5 working days.

Q: The photo I have is damaged can I use this?
A: We deal with damaged photos on a case by case basis and will contact you after we have received the photo in question. For more information on this topic please see the post production article in the technology section.

Q: What resolution is good enough?
A: Obviously the higher resolution the better but we can use pretty much any and upscale it to the correct size for printing. Please see the upscaling article in the technology section.

Q: I have an old photo which is faded and discoloured can this be used?
A: As with the previous answer we will contact you with a quotation.

Q: Are my card details secure?
A: The ordering page is SSL encrypted so any personal details you enter are secure when they are transmitted to our web server. This process can be verified by the padlock at the bottom of your browser, an example of this is shown on the right. SSL padlock icon

Don't be fooled by just the data entry page being encrypted as it is more important to know where the data is going after it has left the page. There are many sites in operation now with what appears to be a safe secure page for entering your credit card details but then this information is simply sent to an e-mail in the background in clear text for anyone to read!

Q: How do I clean my canvas?
A: Use only a light duster to clean your canvas print. Never use any cleaning chemicals.

Q: Why doesn't my print look like the image on my screen?
A: Quite simple because your monitor is not calibrated correctly. The image we see here and what you see will be vastly different if you have not properly calibrated your monitor for your environment. All our equipment is calibrated by the GretagMacbeth Eye-One Professional suite so what we see on our monitors will be exactly what comes out of the printer. We do not use any automatic enhancements when printing such as Epson's "Color Control" or "PhotoEnhance" as we would have no idea what would appear on the paper using these settings which are controlled by the printer driver and not ourselves. Software can also effect the colour of an image as the earlier versions of the popular Paint Shop Pro were notorious for poor colour management. Using professional software which provides colour management such as Adobe Photoshop is preferred as then the soft proof option can be applied to our colour profiles which will give you an idea to how an image will look on a certain material which you can adjust if necessary.
